To configure Form Publisher to turn each form response into Google Docs, Sheets, Slides, PDFs, and Microsoft documents, you need two things:
- a Google form
- a template document (Google Docs, Sheets, or Slides)
To quickly understand how Form Publisher works, you can use the Form Publisher demo flow to generate a demo form and template which you can then modify as needed.
Procedure
- Start Form Publisher from a blank Google form.
- Open Google Forms and select Blank to start with a blank form.
- Click the Add-ons button in the upper-right corner and select Form Publisher.
- In the Form Publisher menu, click Get started.
The Form Publisher add-on opens in the bottom-right corner and indicates that the current form is empty.
- Open Google Forms and select Blank to start with a blank form.
- To have Form Publisher create a demo form and a demo Google Docs template, click Try demo.
Wait while Form Publisher adds questions to the demo form and configures the document template.
As a result, the demo form contains the following questions:
- Invoice number
- Purchase date
- Customer email address
- Plan
- Price
The demo Google Docs template contains the following markers:
- Standard markers (matching data generated by Form Publisher)
- <<Timestamp>>
- <<Invoice number>>
info In this case, the <<Invoice number>> marker is a rename of the <<Increment>> standard marker. You can rename standard markers, but you must also rename the matching column in the responses sheet. In this case, the matching column Increment is also renamed to Invoice number.- Question markers (matching data submitted as responses to the form questions)
- <<Purchase date>>
- <<Customer email address>>
- <<Plan>>
- <<Price>>
Result
The demo form and template are now generated and configured.
What's next
You can modify the demo form by adding, editing, or removing any of the current questions. You can also modify the generated template by clicking the Edit link under Selected template.
If you decide to remove questions, make sure to also remove their matching question markers from the template. If you add questions and want their answers reflected in the generated documents, you must add question markers for those questions in the template document.
After you are happy with the configuration, you can submit a test response to review the document generated by Form Publisher.
